A song of desire (Song of Solomon1:1-4)

The book Song of Solomon is rich and full of symbolic representation. As I read the first 4 verses in chapter 1, my mind drifted to the time when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. These few verses have brought many memories of the beginning of my walk with the Lord. I knew in my head God loved me but I had not experience His passion and affection for me yet. It was the starting of my spiritual progress and longing for more. The experiences I had of Him awakened my desire and feelings for more of Him. I started a dissatisfaction with the ordinary and I developed an inward longing for the Lord Himself. In verses (1-5) we see a similar reaction from the Shulaminte. I identify my desires for more of the Lord with her description of her longing for her bridegroom. I had to look deeper in the symbolic meaning of her description.
In verse 1 she wants to kiss Him. A kiss is a very intimate union similar to when the Lord comes into our lives. He places His Spirit in us.
She is crazy in love and feels that wine can't compare with His love. I can relate to this. My first few months of walking with the Lord I was walking in the clouds as if I had been drinking but without the side effects. It was very sweet!!!
His fragrance is powerful and intoxicating. She wants to draw near to Him because of His fragrance. In a similar manner when the Lord calls on us we can't say no. That first time that you realize He is the answer, you can't stay away from the fragrance of His love.
His name is like healing oil. When we declare the name of the Lord as our savior we are cleansed and healed from sin as a healing balm heals wounds. When we smell His name we understand why others follow Him and why they are passionate about speaking His name.
She calls Him King and we must do the same. We must call Him King of our lives before He becomes the lover of our souls. She can't wait to go into His chambers. The King chambers is the place that marks the beginning of an intimate communion and where He starts to reveal Himself to us. As new believers we are excited to learn about Him and see what He is going to do in our lives.
I will continue to post my thoughts as I study this book. I pray that as you read with me you become dissatisfied with anything other than the Lover of your soul. May you thirst for more Him in the same way the Shulamite describes!
